Sacred Space

Sacred Space
Sometimes, we are so busy making the world better for others that we unmake ourselves in the process. We deplete our emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being to devote our energy to fulfilling the needs of others.

This Sacred Space offers a refuge where you can begin the journey to make yourself whole again - a spiritual focal point where you can replenish what you need to thrive. Filling your Sacred Space is not another task to add to your daily list. There are no expectations, guidelines, rules, or rituals that you must follow. Let your intuition and creativity guide you – listen and trust. When the time is right, reflect on what you need to give to yourself. This Sacred Space will harbour your offering to yourself in whatever form it takes; a treasured rock, a note, a flower, an intention, a whisper, a breath...

Artist Statement
I love everything about clay. I love the feel of it. I love getting my hands messy with it. I love to carve it, shape it, add to it, smooth it, mark it and paint it. And, I love not only the material but also the act of making. Creating life from mud is an exhilarating, spiritual experience that allows me to express my journey with Mother Earth, myself and other people. I create hand-built clay sculptures, and funk-tional pieces that emphasize aesthetics more than function. My art is founded in the power of symbols to express individual, ancestral and cultural identity, while simultaneously acting as a global, uniting language.

As a Canadian artist who lived in the South Pacific for four years, my influences range from Canada’s bohemian West Coast to the villages of Tonga and Fiji. The patterns and symbols I carve into my pieces are a form of textual language where the designs tell a story or hold a message of significance about relationships between people, culture and nature. Mark-making is the element that unifies my pieces. Through my use of symbols and designs I hope to show we are connected to something bigger than ourselves, our land and our ethnic and cultural identity—we are all part of a greater purpose.
